The meaning of life is to find your gift

The purpose of life is to give it away - Pablo Picasso

Book Week and beyond!

School Sessions are available for JP and Primary students - educational, lively and interactive with collaborative drawing bringing to life and characterizing favourite animals! I explain the importance of a sketchbook, show the students original paintings and go through the process I use to create a picture book. Activities are provided for students to keep that creative enthusiasm going afterwards!

Hands on drawing workshops for primary students are also offered.

For Secondary students, workshops focus on the process of children's book illustration and writing, highlighting the importance of storytelling through images and how to find that balance between words and images as an author/illustrator (also available for Primary students).

Mandy is also available for festivals and international workshops.

Testimonials

Mandy Foot visited our junior school students at St Mary’s to talk about her work as an author/ illustrator.

Mandy’s presentation was brilliant and had all the students engaged and asking questions. The drawing activity was clever and lots of fun. As a result of Mandy’s visit, I have had students bring their drawings they have created to share with me, and some have asked for me to send a photo of them to Mandy. Other students have asked to repeat their Bev and Kev activity as they wanted to create a more realistic picture!

Students have learned the value and importance of editing and reworking their work. I would highly recommend a school visit from Mandy!
- Eileen McCabe - St Mary's College

Mandy’s illustration workshop as part of the Juvenilia exhibition hosted at Unley Library was exceptional. She kept a large excited group of kids engaged and interacting with her throughout the 2 hour session, directing and managing them clearly and with good humour.

Mandy, drawing from her experiences as a beginning artist and her professional journey, really resonated with the kids. They were so inspired by the progressive adaptations Mandy makes in her art they continued to develop, explore and improve their work as the session went on – they didn’t want to stop creating! Her workshop had a big impact on the kids lucky enough to participate, It was an excellent opportunity for young people in our community!

(A big thank you to all staff of the Unley Library for their assistance and help with the Juvenilia Exhibition and Workshops).

Artist in Residence Sessions

Invite Mandy to take up residence for a day in your school or public library, painting a scene from start to finish incorporating one or more characters from her books. Each painting is an original and no two are ever the same.

Students and library visitors are welcome to observe, ask questions and generally have a good chat about everything painting. Subjects covered include materials used, the mixing process of paint and the benefits of creating colour charts.

The finished painting will be available to then reside in that library.
